Introduction

Al Shohub Primary School consists of six year groups, organized into two Key Stages:

At Al Shohub, we have high academic and social expectations for our students and our learning community. We foster a culture of respect, kindness, and collaboration, valuing the active contributions of each individual. A strong home-school partnership is essential in supporting students to reach their full potential, and we expect students in all primary classes to engage with daily reading and complete assigned homework tasks to reinforce their learning. Together, we build a resilient, inclusive, and supportive environment that inspires lifelong learning.

Assessment

At Al Shohub, an assessment opportunity is considered to be any moment in time when a child demonstrates their ability. We use a wide range of assessment strategies to get the most robust picture of your child’s learning. Assessing what students know helps us to identify any gaps in their knowledge and we use this to inform future learning. Assessment measures at Al Shohub are interactive and continuous to ensure they are effective. Our teachers are experts in their roles and we will involve you and your child in every step of the assessment process.

At Al Shohub we track the progress and attainment of your child in three ways:

Formative Assessment
This is a continuous process used to inform progression through the learning journey. This mode of assessment is carried out through planning and observations, marking and questioning as well as self and peer assessment techniques.

Summative Assessment
Summative assessment sums up what a student has achieved at the end of a period of time, relative to the learning objectives taught and is used to inform planning and set targets. It can be carried out in a range of ways including using observation, questioning, marking or small end of unit or end of term tests.

External Summative Assessments
These are external, standardised tests which are used to inform teachers, subject leaders and senior leaders about the attainment and progress of all students. Senior leaders use this information to understand how our students achieve in comparison with their peers on a local, national and international scale.

All students in the primary school will complete an external computerised test at the end of each year. These annual tests provide information about where the children are in relation to their age as well as adiagnostic breakdown of gaps in their learning.

In addition, students in Year 1 will complete a phonics screening assessment in the summer term, and students in Year 2 and Year 6 will complete the UK SATs (Statutory Assessment Tests) in Mathematics, Reading and Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar.
